Those who are hoping to see Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods square off won't have to wait too long for the battle to take place.

There were fears that the public would have to wait until the Ryder Cup in September to see the two go head-to-head, but the duo are set to be paired together in the first two rounds of the FedEx Cup next week.

As they are first and second on the FedEx Cup ladder, they will be paired together at The Barclays at Bethpage on New York's Long Island - the first of the four play-off events.

McIlroy's eight-shot win at the USPGA Championship over the weekend has helped him to move to number two in the rankings while Woods, whose search for a 15th major continues after two disappointing final rounds at Kiawah Island, sits atop the standings.

Jason Dufner is likely to partner the duo at Long Island as currently third in the FedEx Cup standings.
