Barely two months left before the anticipated iPhone 7 release date this September, the new Apple smartphone is reportedly coming out with bigger storage increments—from 32GB to a whooping 256GB.

Amid the leaks and rumors on the iPhone 7 specs, Wall Street Journal reported that Apple has ditched the 16GB base model, offering consumers with a new iOS smartphone with a minimum of 32GB storage capacity. Hardcore users can also opt for a model with 256GB capacity, which is large enough to support a Mac Air’s storage needs.

This storage upgrade, according to Forbes, would mean that the new iPhone 7 price will be US$100 (AU$132) lesser than usual. Forbes predicted the new iPhone 7 with 32GB storage will be priced at US$649 (AU$854), 128GB for US$749 (AU$986) and 256GB for US$849 (AU$1,118) while the iPhone 7 Plus with 32GB storage will cost US$749 (AU$986), 128GB for US$849 (AU$1,118) and 256GB for US$949 (AU$1,249).

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are expected to be similar to the 4.7-inch iPhone 6s and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus in terms of screen sizes. But WSJ argued that the new iPhone model will have improved water resistance and a thinner design, especially after rumors say Apple has omitted the 3.5mm headphone jack. The Lightning port used to charge the iPhone 7 will also serve as the port for headphones.

What makes the iPhone 7 Plus different, according to Forbes, is the dual lens camera setup meant to improve photo capturing even despite low light.

Earlier reports said the iPhone 7 may come in three variants: iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 7 Plus Premium or iPhone 7 Pro. But Apple has not confirmed any of the rumors so far.
