Google has revealed the first images of the new version of Google Glass. The device is primarily aimed at businesses including healthcare, energy and manufacturing. The consumer version may follow later.

A filing with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) reveals the latest photos of the design for the revamped wearable device. The new design of the head-mounted device includes a foldable arm with a larger screen, reports the Guardian. Dubbed as model GG1 in the FCC documents, the new version appears to be quite similar to the original.

Back in August, there were reports about the new version of Google Glass. In January, Google confirmed that the company would stop production of the Google Glass Explorer Edition “in present form.”

In 2013, Google retailed its optical head-mounted headset for US$1,500 (AU$2056.48), but it failed to gain momentum due to privacy concerns. The new version of the Google Glass is expected to feature a faster Intel Atom processor, better battery and improved wireless connectivity and camera.

The model intended for enterprises will reportedly sport a better screen suitable for business needs. Meanwhile, the consumer version will feature voice command, audio control and bone conduction technology, The Information reports.

Earlier reports suggested that the new Google Glass may help people with autism in making eye contact and engage in conversations. Ned Sahin, a Boston entrepreneur and scientist, is working on the Brain Power system which will add enhancements to the Glass.

There were also reports that the freight forwarding arm of Deutsche Post DHL Group’s supply-chain management business has already pioneered in experimenting “vision picking” to replace handheld scanners. The logistics services carried out tests of smart glasses to speed up the pocess and reduce errors.
