Google intends to roll-out three new versions of Google Glass in 2016 that will be way more cool than the previous iteration and won’t have the prism-like display that annoyed many.

Google in 2013 launched Google Glass under the Google X division, which has since been renamed “Project Aura”. The optical head-mounted headset retailed for $1,500 but failed to catch on due to privacy concerns and other issues such as getting users banned from entering some theaters and banks in California.

Now comes three new versions of Google Glass. One has a screen and is intended for use by business firms. The other two are consumer versions without screens that allow users to listen to audio, much like a headphone.

Business Insider reported the new Google Glass business version will have a screen suitable for business needs. It will also be for those that have to communicate using the internet and that want to use their smartphones hands-free. This two consumer versions will enable users to access information by using their voices as modular inputs. This type of headset is also targeted at sports people.

These consumer models will be audio controlled and bone conduction technology will be used to transmit sound to the ears allowing users to speak softly, according to The Information.

Dmitry Svetlov, Amazon Labs’ software developer, went on social media to describe the new project as "Glass and Beyond" and declared the Project Aura team will soon release the sassy eyewear range, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The Project Aura team has been focusing on creating cool range of eyewear in contrast to the earlier Google Glass that looked too nerdy. Google will test the new Glasses by handing out samples to select healthcare, manufacturing and energy companies.

Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt said earlier this year the company is eyeing potential new markets for Google Glass.
