Actor Ian Somerhalder shows off his dapper looks in designer suits as the Icon Magazine Fall 2013 issue feature the "Vampire Diaries" star. The 34-year-old heartthrob actor took a break from filming the new season of the successful CW TV series to work on the sexy magazine spread and talk about his career as well as his work on the Ian Somerhalder Foundation (ISF).

Mr Somerhalder revealed in the Icon magazine interview that getting cast as Damon Salvatore in "The Vampire Diaries" helped him in achieving the level of success he has right now in the acting industry. "I obviously feel wonderful about the show. It has defined my life for the last four years and will continue to. It is multi-faceted, you know? You get a bit of creative fulfillment, which is incredible, and you also have a tremendous amount of talented people around that become like family," Ian shared.

The handsome actor further added that his success has allowed him as well to persuade other people for a good cause. "When you have that ear of the public you are able to use that for positive things. I feel like I am able to do that with the great fan base of the show," Mr Somerhalder explained.

Ian Somerhalder may be portraying a dark character onscreen but in real life, the actor is known for his enthusiasm when it comes to environmental causes and animal rights therefore he has established the Ian Somerhalder Foundation (ISF). When asked about what the ISF is all about, Ian stated that it is really about the human condition and not just saving animals or the planet.

"What is it that makes us tick and allows environmental degradation and destruction of our planet. These are things that align with me as a person, not just a foundation. I think there is a growing sense of concern and activation around the world right now. I think people are tired of environmental destruction and corporate greed and government greed. We have to start living more sustainable lives," Ian stated.

With his acting career and advocacy on environmental causes, Ian Somerhalder is without a doubt a busy person but it appears he does not mind at all. Ian confessed being grateful about it.

"There really is no off time for me. You know, I'm really grateful for television and I like the commitment. Of course I want to do more film. I'd really like to get to the point where I can act in a film and direct a film every year. And of course, enjoy myself. I've been on the grind for 10 months out of the year for the last six years. It is a great problem to have, but it takes a toll on you," Ian revealed to Icon magazine.

About the "enjoy myself" part, what Ian Somerhalder has in mind for a good time is to get in his "baby" Airstream trailer and go some place, sit on the rive, catch trouts and play with his guitar with his feet in the river.
