Ian Somerhalder: 'Vampire Diaries' Actor Attends The Humane Society Of The United States’ Proposition 2 Celebration With Girlfriend Nikki Reed
Lovebirds Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed continue to spend time together after their holiday vacation in Sun Valley, Idaho. The 36-year-old "Vampire Diaries" actor was spotted at the Humane Society of the United States' Proposition 2 celebration with his "Twilight" actress girlfriend on Monday, Jan. 5, in Los Angeles.
The couple showed their support at the event where HSUS President and CEO Wayne Pacelle talked about the importance of farm animal protection. The attendees, including actress Kate Mara, celebrated the enactment of California's Proposition 2 that calls on retailers to use cage-free animal products only.
Kate Mara expressed gratitude in a statement to the Humane Society of the United States for the Prop 2 legislation where the lives of farm animals are improved. "Laws like these do so much to raise awareness about the plight of billions of animals raised for food, and open doors to other states to consider adopting similar measures as consumer demand for more humane products skyrockets by the day," the 31-year-old "House of Cards" star stated. The day before the event, Ian and Nikki were reportedly spotted on an early jewelry shopping spree with lots of public display of affection (PDA) at New Stone Age in West Hollywood. Click HERE to see photos. According to a Mail Online report, the couple's outing came after Nikki Reed's divorce from "American Idol" alum Paul McDonald got finalized.
The report further revealed that Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald filed for divorce back in May 2014 with irreconcilable differences cited as the reason for their split. The 26-year-old actress got three houses, three cars and Enzo, their German Shepherd dog, from the divorce's splitting of assets.
As for the musician, Paul McDonald acquired the Nashville home where they lived as a married couple. Additionally, Nikki and Paul agreed to waive spousal support. Nikki Reed will star opposite Joe Jonas and Bonnie Wright in the upcoming film titled "The Highway Is For Gamblers."
Meanwhile, Ian Somerhalder is set to return to the small screen this January in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 6 where he portrays vampire Damon Salvatore. The CW TV series will return on Thursday night, Jan. 22, at 8 p.m. ET on the CW Network with episode 11 titled "Woke Up With a Monster."
