There will be three villains causing trouble in Storybrooke in the second half of "Once Upon a Time" Season 4. The arrival of the "Queens of Darkness" appears to be too much to some OUAT fans but executive producer Adam Horowitz explained why the characters got included in the fairy tale drama series.

In "Once Upon a Time" Season 4, episode 12 titled "Heroes and Villains," Maleficent (Kristin Bauer van Straten), Usrula (Merrin Dungey) and Cruella de Vil (Victoria Smurfit) want to get their "happy ending" while teaming up with Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold (Robert Carlyle). Executive producer Adam Horowitz explained in an Entertainment Weekly interview that the OUAT team wants to tell new stories for the show's characters.

The executive producer admitted that the three villains became very interesting to them because of the possibilities that they saw of how the "Queens of Darkness" could connect to the "Once Upon a Time" characters and what they could reveal. "What does their arrival mean for Regina? What does their arrival mean for Emma? What does it mean for Snow and Charming? We have some answers to those questions and we're very excited about it," Horowitz teased.

On Twitter, Adam Horowitz has also been teasing the fans with some lines from the script of "Once Upon a Time" Season 4, episode 13 titled "Darkness on the Edge of Town" as a holiday treat. "How about a frustratingly tiny #OnceUponATime #scripttease for the March 1st premiere? Happy holidays!" Horowitz posted on his Twitter account @AdamHorowitzLA last Dec. 27, 2014.

"How about one last #OnceUponATime #scripttease for 2014? Hope to see ya March 1! Happy New Year!" the executive producer further tweeted with the script tease coming from the OUAT character Regina/Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla). Meanwhile, Adam Horowitz is not the only one teasing the fans on the second half of "Once Upon a Time" Season 4.

"Once Upon a Time" Season 4 is still a couple of months away from returning to the small screen but actress Victoria Smurfit shared on Twitter that she is set to go back to work as Cruella de Vil in the ABC TV series. "Is it wrong that am super excited to don the furs and diamonds at work again in a matter of days?!? @AdamHorowitzLA #donewithjeans #cruella," Smurfit posted on her Twitter account @Victoria Smurfit on Saturday, Jan. 3.

"Once Upon a Time" Season 4 is scheduled to return on Sunday, March 1, with episode 13 titled "Darkness on the Edge of Town" at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
