Hewlett Packard could possibly unbox a below $200 Android smartphone very soon, possibly this week, Techie News reports. It would be an entry-level phone similar to the Galaxy Note, with the emerging economies as the target market.

The Web site said that Alberto Torres, the new senior vice president of HP for mobility, heads the team that has been developing the smartphone in the last 18 months. It added the speculations that HP would release a smartphone has been circulating for a long time, and since HP CEO Meg Whitman as ruled out a 2013 launch, early 2014 seems a probable date for a roll out.

Although there are no leaks yet as to the specs of the upcoming smartphone, the Web site said it would likely have a 720p screen and display size between 5.5 and 6.4 inches.

Meanwhile, in its review of another entry-level phone, the $99 Asus's ZenFone 4, displayed at the CES 2014, PC Advisor observed that the device looks great for a budget smartphone and come in five colours - Charcoal Black, Pearl White, Cherry Red, Sky Blue and Solar Yellow.

Although made of plastic casing, there was no painful lag with the reviewer tried the device, attributing its performance to the dual-core 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z2520 processer.

It comes with a 4-inch 480x800 TFT screen, 4GB of internal storage, a microSD slot that could expand up to 32GB, 1GB of RAM, 5MP rear-facing camera, front-facing camera and Dual SIM. It runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
