"How I Met Your Mother," the hit CBS sitcom being watched by millions of viewers around the world, has a simple premise: Ted Mosby, a 50-something dorky, nerdy dad tells his two kids how he met their mother. In real life, the world has McKay, a self-confessed nerd who tells the same story, too, online. He posted to imgur over a dozen photos about his life up to his wedding day. International Business Times Australia reaches out to him. Here are parts of the untold story.

McKay has been quite a viral hit on his honeymoon. Incidentally, the entire How I Met Your Mother Season 9 is framed by a wedding and a honeymoon weekend.

Being a Redditor (on Reddit.com), McKay has observed certain frustrations of "nerds" on the romantic relationships zone. "Having been a nerd/geek my entire life, I hope my story can offer encouragement to others in a similar situation," he writes.

The cute and amusing story is not exactly HIMYM. The kids haven't been born yet. In fact, McKay wrote their story on his honeymoon! To some of those who commented on his story, McKay's story is about how "the nerd snags the hottie."

Follow this link for the whole story. In a nutshell, a bully called McKay a nerd when he was a kid. The label stuck to him, but he had no real problem with it. That's until he made up his mind that he wanted to marry and have a family. "I have always been totally clueless when it comes to fashions, styles, and clothing," he said. "Even though I would go on dates, I felt like the girls were just being nice," McKay wrote. So when did this "nerd" get his first girlfriend, you ask? "When I was 29 years old, I finally had my first kiss and got my first girlfriend!" He later tells IB Times Australia, he met this girl through online dating (which he tried "for quite a few years").

McKay posted photos that are cute, hilarious, and adorable. The ones with him and his gorgeous wife are particularly smile-worthy. Ted Mosby in How I Met Your Mother would always talk about how certain things in the past are linked to how destiny unfolds until the very thing you're looking for happens right in front of you. The same thing happened to McKay.

In 2011, McKay accepted an English teaching job for a university in China. (Yes, Ted Mosby is a teacher, too.) He'd meet "a really cute girl" on his first teacher's meeting. On TV, this is where it becomes clear the "destined" couple are at the right place at the right time. But it's not easy for the nerd guy. He'd see her on several occasions, but not talk to her. He'd find out they are neighbours, still no talking.

"Eventually for the mid-Autumn festival in China our school wanted to give all of the foreign teachers a box of moon cakes," McKay said in his email to IBT-Au. This is when fate itself has intervened, in HIMYM terms. The school somehow decided the teachers are supposed to visit McKay in his apartment and pick up the destiny-flavoured mooncakes. When the cute girl didn't come to pick up the mooncakes, he finally had something to say to her. And the rest that is history? "We ended up talking for about an hour," writes McKay, thanks to the special mooncakes. Everything happens for a reason.
