WNBA player, Diana Taurasi of Phoenix Mercury has become an internet sensation after planting the infamous “basketball kiss” to opponent, Seimone Augustus of Minnesota Lynx. And the WNBA star expressed delight and surprise at the same time after her kiss ‘catches fire” in the world wide web. The video featuring the rare “basketball kiss” has gone viral since it went online.

The video has recorded about 2.5 million views on YouTube 36 hours after it emerged on the internet. And the first person to be surprised after it went viral was Augustus.

"I had no idea it would catch fire like it did," Augustus said, according to wjla.com, citing a report by the Associated Press.

"I guess I should've expected it when I woke up the next morning and saw ESPN had its little segment on sentimental smooches. But I didn't think it would reach this magnitude. It's great. I hope those 2.5 million views transfer over to the game."

Taurasi has surprised fans at Thursday’s play offs game when she planted a kiss on the cheek of rival, Minnesota Lynx guard, Seimone Augustus.

This could be a clear case of “can’t beat her, kiss her” strategy employed by Phoenix Mercury star player, Diana Taurasi when she decided that planting a kiss on the cheek of opponent, Seimone Augustus of Minnesota Lynx.

Unable to find court position after battling out in the court during the playoffs, Taurasi did what could be the second most controversial kiss in the history of basketball. That is, since Isiah Tomas kissed Magic Johnson before an NBA Final’s game in 1988.

The kiss came during the heated part of Game 1 at the fourth quarter of the Western Conference finals.

Series of photos posted at New York Daily News showed Taurasi pressing her lips to Augustus while her team was being drilled by the Lynx team. One photo showed the ref racing to the opponents to separate them. But he came running too late as the infamous kiss had already been planted before he was even able to separate them.

Taurasi and Augustus who played together on the U.S. national team, were both hit with fouls. Augustus scored 18 points during the game and her team snatched the win with 85-62 scores.

The kiss of course did not escape ESPN and it played the top moment Friday morning, and it was featured in the “sentimental smooch” segment of the morning program.

Augustus seemed happy about the kiss as she took to Twitter saying: “Only Diana can create such craziness Gotta Love It! WNBAPlayoffs."

Who doesn’t. It was equally fun to watch.
