Christmas is fast approaching, with only a few days left before Dec 25, 2013. While a lot of people argue that Christmas is not just a time for giving gifts, it can't be denied that a huge part of it is still about shopping, wrapping presents and exchanging gifts. Since it's almost Christmastime, the mad rush of looking for gifts has already started. With there is a whole gamut of options for consumers out there, it can be quite confusing and a little hard to decide on what to give people, especially kids, these days. The National Retail Foundation (NRF) designed a survey called "NRF 2013 Holiday Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey" to learn more about consumer habits, behavior and shopping trends which are related to the winter holidays. It was conducted for NRF by Prosper Insights and Analytics from Nov1 to 7, 2013. It observed the popular toys that are in demand in 2013. Below is a list of the NRF 2013 top five toys for boys.

Top 5 Toys for Boys in 2013:

1. LEGO

The classic and colorful toy that stimulates children's imagination and creativity by allowing them to design and build just about anything they can think of using LEGO blocks is still a top favourite among boys. It can give endless hours of fun and can leave the boys occupied for a long time. Just be sure that these toys are given to kids in the appropriate age range recommended on the LEGO boxes because the little parts could be eaten by curious little ones. 2. Video Games

With the popularity of video games nowadays, it's not surprising that kids love them, especially boys. There are kid-friendly video games appropriate for children such as the well-known "Pokemon X and Y" from Nintendo and Game Freak. However, make sure to check the ratings of the video games because some of these have too much violence and graphic content, like "Grand Theft Auto 5" ("GTA 5"), which are too much for children of a certain age to handle. 3. Cars and Trucks (Generic)

This list wouldn't be complete without the requisite cars and trucks which boys absolutely adore, even at a young age. There are lots of brands to choose from, so just pick out the ones which are made of non-toxic materials so that the children stay safe even while playing these toys.

4. Hot Wheels

5. Xbox One

Microsoft's popular game console beat out its competitors (Sony PlayStation and Nintendo Wii) to emerge as at among the top of the pack and the fifth among all other toys out there in 2013.
