It is the 20th anniversary of the long-running "Might and Magic" game franchise, and to celebrate, Ubisoft has announced a high definition re-release of "Heroes: Might and Magic 3: Restoration of Erathia." To make things more enticing, it's not just getting another PC version, but it will also find its way to iOS and Android tablets for the first time.

While all of the iterations have their fans, "Heroes of Might and Magic 3" stands tall as one of the best in the series,. It has garnered critical praise upon its release in 1999 with many a critic stating that it is a sequel done right. IGN praised the gameplay, graphics and pure addictive quality of the game and the variety of character classes available for your heroes. Its campaigns and soundtrack are also worth a look at, as GameSpot reports that it does not only feature well-designed campaigns but also a great soundtrack to boot. What's more, the title is much more refined in terms of its features when compared to its predecessors, even if the developer didn't add too many new improvements.

The new release will be available on Steam, and according to Eurogamer, it will be specifically for online multiplayer opportunities, which should excite fans of the series. Joystiq takes note of the fact that online multiplayer was not announced on the tablet versions though local multiplayer was confirmed.

One sad detail about the release is that the HD version will not include the Armageddon's Blade or Shadow of Death expansion packs that were released to capitalize on the game's popularity at the time. According to Ubisoft, when they asked New World Computing for the "Might and Magic" archives, only the original "Restoration of Erathia" had a usable source code.

"As Heroes fans ourselves, we know that nothing we could have done on this title would have surpassed the original game and this never has been our intention since the beginning of this project," said Ubisoft in a statement to fans via the "Might and Magic" website.

Ubisoft has stated that the gameplay will be just as good as ever and will not need any additional tweaking or fixing. As it stands, this is simply a new way to get new gamers to try out an old masterpiece.

"Heroes of Might and Magic 3: Restoration of Erathia" will be released on Jan. 29, 2015 on PC, Steam and Tablet devices, though no price has been revealed as of this time. Gamers will only have to wait one month to feel the magic again.
