Spirit of Tasmania II will proceed with its journey on Thursday after passengers had to suffer from huge disappointment when the sail was interrupted by its massive vessel damage.

The passengers were stuck in Melbourne on Wednesday when moorings of the ship broke, setting the vessels free in wild weather in Melbourne. The vessel crashed in Station Pier, following which, 650 passengers had to spend the whole night on the damaged ferry.

Winds blew 100 kilometres per hour across Melbourne and damaged the ferry, which carried passengers and cargo from Devonport to the Victorian capital. The incident took place at 6:15 p.m. The heavy wind made the ship take a swing to a 90-degree angle before it drifted towards shore. The wind also caused damage to boarding ramp of the ship.

TT Line spokesman Nick Turner mentioned that Spirit of Tasmania I will reach Melbourne on Thursday afternoon to carry people to Devonport. He also said the passengers remained on the damaged ferry overnight and were offered complimentary dinner.

The Spirit of Tasmania II was loaded with 65 cars, which will be unloaded on Thursday morning, Turner stated. He added the passengers would receive refund, if required.

The passengers believed that the sail will resume on Thursday morning. One of them, John Seaman, said his fellow passengers are anxious about the incident. The most affected, he said, are those who have family commitments in Launceston.

The passenger said that the authorities have asked them to prepare to disembark. He said that passengers were asked to return to their cars. “They apologised for the inconvenience ... but basically it’s a case of we’re told to get off the boat, take our cars and go away,” he said as quoted by the ABC .
