With “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” having already hit theatres, the film’s cast members have been spotted left and right for promotions and interviews. Most recently, Zoe Saldana — who portrays Gamora in the film — divulged that her character may have a more prominent role in the third “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie. As USA Today reports, James Gunn — the director for “Vol. 2” — has big plans for Saldana in the next “Guardians” film. As Gunn will be returning to the director’s chair for the third movie, he has already begun writing the story and claims Saldana’s Gamora will have a more important role in the next film.

Though details on the aforementioned flick have been sparse, ComicBook reports that Gamora’s role in the third “Guardians” movie may have something to do with the upcoming “Avengers: Infinity War.” As “Infinity War” will see the Avengers going against Thanos, Gamora may be a pivotal character amidst the conflict, especially since she is the adopted daughter of the aforementioned antagonist. With that possibility into account, Gamora and the rest of the Guardians may serve as support for the Avengers. Nebula, Gamora’s adopted sister, may even team up with her sibling to take down Thanos. This, however, remains to be speculation until more details on either “Vol. 3” or “Infinity War” will come to light.

Saldana first portrayed Gamora in 2014 with the first “Guardians” movie. As “Vol. 3” will be the last iteration of the characters with its current cast of actors and actresses, Gamora’s rise to the fore may help bring the “Guardians” trilogy to a proper close. While Gunn mentioned that he has already been discussing Gamora’s rise in significance with Saldana, it is still too early to say just how the importance of her role will be manifested in the upcoming film.

Besides Saldana as Gamora, the “Guardians” cast also features Chris Pratt as protagonist Peter Quill/Star-Lord and Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer. Completing the “Guardians” lineup are Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon and Vin Diesel as Groot. There is still no release date for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” but the Guardians will be making a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2018 with “Infinity War.” They will be joined by the stars who make up the Avengers, including Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow.
