James Gunn recently teased the appearance of Magus in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.” However, the director declined to reveal further details about the other characters in the film.

Collider caught up with the director at the 41st Annual Saturn Awards to quiz him about “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.” James Gunn played coy when asked if Magus will be among the characters in the sequel. "You'll have to wait and see the movie to see who's introduced,” he said then gave a knowing smile.

There will reportedly be fewer characters involved in the sequel compared to the first movie. Talking about the characters in the film, Gunn said, “It's both a bigger movie and a smaller movie because we focus more intensely on some of the characters.”

Magus was rumoured to have a major role in “Avengers: Infinity War” so per Comic Book Movie, it’s understandable for him to make an appearance first in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.” James Gunn had reportedly previously insisted that there will only be one major character added in the sequel and fans have believed it to be Adam Warlock’s evil alter-ego, Magus.

In the same interview with Collider, James Gunn had once again reiterated that the sequel will introduce Peter Quill or Star Lord’s father. “We learn a lot about fathers in the second movie and I think we focus a lot on that,” he said. The Daily Marvelite had once speculated that Magus will be introduced as Star Lord’s father in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.”

James Gunn reportedly had some Easter eggs planted in “Guardians of the Galaxy” that allude to Adam Warlock. According to the site, this is found in the Collector’s room in the form of a pulsating cocoon, which the director had confirmed to contain Warlock. “This could be a dramatic way of introducing the team member in the sequel and serve the plot device having Peter Quill's father be a hero AND a villain within the story,” The Daily Marvelite stated.

In the Marvel comics, Adam Warlock is introduced as one of the founding members of the Guardians of the Galaxy. He was a product of a group of aliens’ desire to create the perfect human. He was also better known in the comics through his evil alter-ego named Magus.
