James Gunn recently confirmed that a couple more characters from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe will not be featured in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.” Captain Marvel and Venom will not be gracing fans with their presence in the sequel.

Movie director James Gunn confirmed over the weekend that Carol Danver’s “Captain Marvel” and another Marvel character, Venom, will not be featured in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.” Gunn was asked by a fan via his Twitter page whether “Captain Marvel will appear in #GOTG2,” to which the director replied, “Getting this a lot this morning. As I said months ago, no, sorry.”

According to Comicbookmovie, fans initially thought Gunn was teasing the presence of Captain Marvel in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” when he said the sequel will introduce his favourite Marvel character. He had reportedly teased that this character may be a she, leading to speculations he could be referring to Captain Marvel a.k.a. Carol Danvers. But the director had supposedly already made it clear during press junkets for “Guardians of the Galaxy” that Annihilus and Starhawk are his favourite characters, with the latter rumoured to be in the sequel.

As for Venom, CB claimed James Gunn “was a little more evasive” when asked by another user on Twitter if Venom will be included in the sequel. When asked if there’s any truth to the symbiote rumours, Gunn dismissed that there were no rumours to begin with. He said “there are no rumors. Just guesses, which are fun.” The director added that only six people know who will be in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” but did not outright say if Venom will or will not be in the sequel.

James Gun had so far already ruled out numerous “Guardians of the Galaxy” characters from appearing in the sequel. The death of Ronan the Accuser in the first film clearly means he will be missed in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.” According to CB, other characters confirmed not to appear in the sequel include Bug, Rom: Spaceknight and Nova aka Richard Rider.

However, James Gunn has confirmed back in December that “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” will see the return of Star Lord’s adoptive father Yondu and Kraglin, The Ravagers. According to Screenrant, the director also teased the return of Nebula and Benicio del Toro’s The Collector in the sequel.
