There are rumours that a DC spin-off movie is in the works, featuring female superheroes. Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn is said to be working with David Ayer again for the new DC spin-off film.

Margot Robbie to Return as Harley Quinn

David Ayer will direct a female DC spin-off movie, titled “Gotham City Sirens.” Margot Robbie is set to reprise her role as Harley Quinn, although the film will also showcase other famous female superheroes like Catwoman and Poison Ivy. Geneva Robertson-Dworet is set to write the script, writes The Hollywood Reporter. There are not a lot of details about the DC spin-off movie in the meantime, but it was reportedly fast-tracked.

David Ayer previously directed “Suicide Squad,” where Margot Robbie first appeared as Joker’s girlfriend. Ayer will return for the DC spin-off movie to showcase the stories of Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and Catwoman. Poison Ivy is a villain who uses plants and toxins, while Catwoman is a seductive burglar. Both women have been depicted as a love interest of Batman at some point in the comics. In “Gotham City Sirens,” the three villainesses are expected to cross paths or even team up, considering how closely related their stories are in the comics.

More Upcoming DC Projects

Gotham City Sirens” originated from the 2009 comic book by Paul Dini and Guillem March. The plot delved on Batman’s encounters with the three women. The female DC spin-off movie will have Geoff Johns and Jon Berg serve as producers. Margot Robbie is also set to serve as producer. Ayer is represented by CAA and Sloane Offer.

News of Margot Robbie starring in a DC spin-off female superhero movie started in September 2016. After “Suicide Squad,” Warner Bros. was allegedly already planning a sequel, as well as a spin-off film featuring Deadshot (Will Smith). Although “Suicide Squad” received lukewarm reviews, Robbie’s performance was highly praised, with fans asking for a standalone film starring her character.

The release date of “Gotham City Sirens” has yet to be announced. More updates and details on the DC spin-off female superhero project are expected soon.
