The Duchess of Cambridge has truly become one of the world’s most popular women since she married Prince William. She has transformed into more than just Prince William’s wife, but a style icon, socialite, mother of two and so much more. This can only mean that producers have to be extra careful in selecting who could pull off a Kate Middleton portrayal in any form of media -- and it looks like Charlotte Riley just made the cut.

The “Peaky Blinders” lead actress will be taking on the challenging role of Kate Middleton in BBC2’s upcoming royal drama “King Charles III.” This upcoming film is an adaptation of Mike Bartlett’s play of the same title. Photos of the actress in-role during the early stages of filming have surfaced online recently and these had viewers nothing short of excited.

Riley previously said that she is “really excited” to be starring in this unique television drama. She also finds Kate Middleton and interesting woman even in the context of the play. Her role is a challenge that she really has been looking forward to. How well she will be able to pull off the Duchess of Cambridge’s mannerisms, antics and fashion sense remains to be seen when this show comes out very soon.

“King Charles III” will be written in blank verse and is an imagining of Prince Charles’ ascent to the throne, which will happen after the Queen’s demise. This series is set in an alternate timeline where events are different than they actually are. It is written by “Doctor Foster” writer Mike Bartlett.

Radio Times reports that this show will follow Prince Charles as he refuses to sign a controversial bill into law and all the chaos that ensues after. This will involve a constitutional crisis, rioting on the streets of London, a siege in front of the Buckingham palace wherein a tank is involved and a lot more. Later on, Charles will wrestle with his own identity as the drama will explore its implications for him, his family and his subjects.

BBC2 posted early photos of the actors in character on its Twitter page. “King Charles III” will air in 2017.
