'The Good Wife' season 7 new trailer: Alicia celebrates her independence; makes deal with the "devil"

The seventh season of “The Good Wife” will premiere on Sunday, Oct. 4. Alicia Florrick is expected to be a new woman, without a husband and an office.

In the first trailer for the upcoming season, Alicia (Julianna Margulies) seems to be enjoying her newfound independence. The video also gives us a first look at Ruth Eastman (Margo Martindale), a campaign agent who will most likely be helping Peter (Chris Noth) in his presidential bid. The addition of Eastman will result in some problems with current campaign operative and Chief of Staff Eli Gold (Alan Cumming). Cumming said that Eli’s head will explode due to the stress that Eastman has brought to his position, Deadline reveals. The trailer also featured a confrontation between Peter and Eli. The two might clash in the season premiere, writes Entertainment Weekly.

CarterMatt notes that the show actually did a slow build on Alicia and Peter campaigning. It is also interesting to note that if Peter wins the presidency, the show might be set in other places outside Chicago. There will also be new characters to expect, which will add to the tension between the main cast and season regulars.

In the new season, Alicia will try to revive her struggling law career by working on behalf of those under arrest who are looking to be released on bail in bond court. She will meet Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo), a lawyer who will compete for her clients.

Christian Post mentions that Jeffrey Dean Morgan (“Extant”) might be appearing in “The Good Wife” Season 7. He will be taking on the role of Investigator Jason Crouse, a calm investigator who will help Alicia in boosting her new law firm. There might be a budding relationship between Jason and Alicia, which might cause some problems in the latter’s relationship with Peter. Michael J. Fox will still play Louis Canning, whom Dianne (Christine Baranski) called "the devil" in the previous season, while Jane Curtin will return as Judge Farley. In the upcoming season, Alicia is expected to have more interaction with Canning.

Christine Baranski (Diane Lockhart) said that Peter Gallagher will also be on the show. The new actors will play a huge role in keeping the story fresh.

Episode 1 of “The Good Wife” Season 7 titled “Grunts” will air at 9/8c on CBS.
