The current generation consoles' lack of compelling original IPs has resulted in a particularly high number of HD remasters and remakes of last-gen hits. It looks like the second-largest Xbox videogame franchise is set to get a current-gen makeover. After rumours of a "Gears of War" remaster, a videogame rating body in Brazil has slipped out the existence of "Gears of War: Ultimate Edition."

Gamespot reports that the Brazilian videogame classification entity by the name of Classificação Indicativa has pegged "Gears of War: Ultimate Edition" for a 2015 release. The exact date hasn't been mentioned yet. The submission of what appears to be a "Gears of War" remake to the Brazilian organisation seems to be in tune with the recent rumours surrounding the inevitable remake to the Xbox 360 classic. This new development gives credence to the on-going rumours. At this rate, the fans of the Xbox 360 classic can expect an official unveiling at E3 2015.

Interestingly, the same body has also listed a 2015 release for "Dishonored: Definitive Edition," which seems like a remake of the popular FPS for current gen consoles. Unlike "Gears of War," there haven't been any rumours surrounding the Dishonoured remake.

The "Gears of War" remake rumour was drummed up by quite a few news sources last month. One of those was Polygon, which had cited sources that spoke of an Xbox One remake featuring improved textures and a revamped lighting engine. The original game and its subsequent sequels were well regarded for its multiplayer component. Apparently, the remake will feature a fitting multiplayer that is said to run at a smooth 60fps. To be honest, Microsoft had better get this right, especially considering the multiplayer debacle of "Halo: The Master Chief Collection."

Citing its unnamed source, Polygon further reported that the remake project now identified as "Gears of War: Ultimate Edition" is being developed by Splash Damage. The UK-based studio is well known for online multiplayer centric FPS games such as "Brink" and "Enemy Territory: Quake Wars." This is also confirmed by a recent job posting by the studio citing that the developer is working on a "very well known and highly popular AAA title with next gen technology."
