Little Finger will atone for his mistake in “Game of Thrones” Season 6. Fans gasped at his marriage proposal in the previous season. Aidan Gillen has now confirmed that his character did not know what kind of a psychopath Sansa was marrying.

[Spoiler alert]

News of Sansa’s (Sophie Turner) escape has reached the Vale. Petyr Baelish, also known as Little Finger (Aidan Gillen), knows that she is still in danger and will do the best he can to protect the young Stark girl.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gillen described Sansa’s marriage to Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) as his character’s first “slip up.” He revealed that Little Finger will be mostly seen this year atoning for his misjudgement and trying to ally himself with the “right people.”

Gillen emphasised that most of the cruel acts that Ramsay did was behind closed doors and gates and the world does not know the true extent of his cruelty. Even the well informed Little Finger doesn’t know about him. Despite the character’s cold calculations in “Game of Thrones” Season 6, he still has a soft spot for Sansa, the actor revealed.

The actor also talked about the rivalry between his character and Varys (Conleth Hill). The two characters work in the shadow and control a vast army of spies. The rivalry of the two characters has been something that the fans have loved these past few years.

When asked who would live longer between the two spy masters, Gillen said that he initially thought that the two would live till the end due to their intelligence. The actor pointed out that Little Finger has put himself in a more dangerous position physically.

Little Finger will make his first appearance in “Game of Thrones” Season 6 in the next episode. While he is in Westeros, his rival Varys is far away in Meereen. Gillen said that his character has forgotten all about his rival for the time being.
