‘Game of Thrones’ Season 5 Spoilers: Meet The Sand Snakes

“Game of Thrones” Season 5 will be featuring three new characters from the kingdom of Dorne. Fans will get to see Tyene, Obara and Nymeria for the first time. The producers of the show recently released a video introducing the three characters and gave hints about what to expect from them in the upcoming season. [Warning: Spoilers Alert]

Fans of the franchise who have been following the TV series know that children born out of wedlock in the north are given the surname – Snow. Similarly, the bastard children in the southern kingdom of Dorne are given the surname - Sand. The producers have released a video on MakingGameOfThrones featuring interviews of the three cast members, who play the roles of the Sand Sisters in the upcoming season.

Tyene, Obara and Nymeria Sand are the bastard daughters of Oberyn Martell, a character played by Pedro Pascal. His daughters use the word “Snakes” because their father’s nickname was “The Red Viper.” Oberyn died in a trial by combat in the previous season. Fans will get to see the three characters wanting to get revenge for the death of their father in “Game of Thrones” Season 5.

The roles of Tyene, Obara and Nymeria will be played by Rosabell Laurenti Sellers, Keisha Castle-Hughes and Jessica Henwick respectively. The three actresses talked about the kingdom of Dorne and about their characters in the video released by the producers.

Dorne is in the southern part of Westeros. “The weather is always beautiful, it’s always sunny. That’s why their symbol is a sun,” Rosabell said in the video. “The people are a little bit more free and we’re free lovers,” Keisha said in the video.

The people of Dorne are also warriors. Each Sand Sister will get a unique weapon in “Game of Thrones” Season 5. Obara Sand wields a spear, Nymeria can be seen using her whip in the video and Tyene Sand gets double daggers.

Keisha revealed that the three sisters never fight as individuals and always fight as a group. There was, however, some disagreement about who is the best fighter among the three sisters. Rosabell said that out of the three, Tyene was the better fighter, but Keisha contended that Obara Sand was the better fighter.

When Jessica was told about what one of her fellow cast members said about being the better fighter, she smiled broadly and said “yeah, of course she did.” The highly anticipated “Game of Thrones” Season 5 is slated to premiere on April 12, 2015.
