A recent international survey by WIN/Gallup International has identified 60 percent of the worldwide population as “religious.” In addition, the polling has revealed that Britain has the least number of people who believe that they are religious.

The survey was conducted by the WIN/Gallup International around Easter where they questionned around 64,000 people from 65 countries across the world. Africa and The Middle East was not surveyed assuming that a majority of people from these regions consider themselves as religious, a fact with a potential to impact the correct interpretation of poll results, reported The Independent.

The survey results revealed that only one-third of Britons consider themselves as religious, irrespective of their choice to visit a religious place or not. A whooping 53 percent of the people confessed that they were not religious as compared to 13 percent who said that they were “convinced atheist.” The rest did not know whether they were religious or not.

Only three other European countries, including Netherland, the Czech Republic and Sweden had the lowest number of self-declared religious people compared to Britain. Other than the European countries, China, Japan and Hong Kong had less religious followers than the UK.

The survey results revealed that Thailand is the most religious country in the world with 94 percent of the people responding that they were religious. According to the poll, the five most religious countries include Thailand, Amenia, Bangladesh, Georgia and Morocco.

The polling results also revealed that youngsters are more religious than older adults and that religion is dominant on each and every continent on Earth. On the other hand, the results show that education and wealth tend to affect people in a negative way in terms of religion ad the more educated and the wealthier ones are less religious.

“Religion continues to dominate our everyday lives and we see that the total number of people who consider themselves to be religious is actually relatively high. Furthermore, with the trend of an increasingly religious youth globally, we can assume that the number of people who consider themselves religious will only continue to increase,” said Jean-Marc Leger from WIN/Gallup International, reported The Telegraph.
