During the Halloween season last month, game developer Gun Media sought to revive the “Friday the 13th” video game franchise with the announcement of a new title in development. The developer then began a Kickstarter campaign to rely on crowdfunding for the game. A couple of weeks after, it seems the Kickstarter stint paid off well for the developer.

Friday the 13th: The Game” has successfully reached its funding goal of US$700,000 (AU$990, 701). This means that both Camp Crystal Lake and its local terroriser, Jason Voorhees, will be brought to video game form. No release date has been set for the game.

The Kickstarter page for “Friday the 13th: The Game” shows that it has exceeded its goal with funds from more than 10,000 backers. The Kickstarter launched just last month, and it has already exceeded the goal with still three days left in the campaign.

There’s no detailed chart of the goals for the campaign as of now. However, Gun Media said that a stretch goals chart is in development. It also said that additional kills and other content will be unlocked with the stretch goals. According to the developer, if the stretch goals aren’t reached, it will release the content as post-launch DLC updates.

The game will reportedly play a lot like the films themselves. Several players will be assigned as the camp counselors who have to survive the night. One gamer will be tasked to play Jason, whose ultimate goal is to kill everyone. The developer boasts that there are a lot of ways Jason can dispatch of his victims.

As mentioned earlier, “Friday the 13th: The Game” launch date has not yet been announced. It is still currently in development for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the PC.
