Former Milwaukee Bucks owner Herb Kohl made sure his time with the team will be remembered by his employees up to the very last day by sending them each a $500 check as a token of his gratitude, according to ESPN.

Kohl, who sold the Bucks to Wesley Edens & Marc Lasry for $550 million, distributed $500 checks to all the employees of the team's home arena, the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Izeal Atkins, longtime employee of the arena, was one of the beneficiary of what the former US Senator called a gesture of gratitude for being part of the Bucks family.

"I am not quick to shed tears," Atkins told WISN 12 News via ESPN. "I sat there and shed tears for maybe five to 10 minutes because nobody just walks up, gives you $500."

"Today, I want to express my gratitude and appreciation," Atkins' letter read, according to WISN 12 News. "That's why I am pleased to provide you with a gesture of my appreciation."

Kohl purchased the Bucks for $18 million in 1985, but the team never reached the NBA finals during his tenure. Nevertheless, the Bucks have the chance to improve their young lineup after landing the no.2 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.

"The employees of the BMO Harris Bradley Center are like family to Senator Kohl, and this was a way for him to demonstrate his appreciation," Steve Costello, president and CEO of the BMO Harris Bradley Center, said in a statement Tuesday. "We are most grateful for this very thoughtful gesture."
