Craig Ison, a former Australian boxer, has become the symbol of bravery after defeating the white shark with his repeated punches. The 52-year-old sports star was attacked by a big white shark on Friday morning at a northern NSW beach and was said to be treated successfully. But the joy of his family and friends came to a halt when the champion suffered from surgical problems. Ison was admitted to the Lismore Base Hospital and overcame the complications once again after his operation.

In conversation with the Associated Press, Ison’s fellow friend George Hill described the whole scene where he saw the white mammal get a couple of punches from the indigenous sportsman. He remembered the fight between Ison and the mammal’s tail. He identified those punches as “watching Mick Fanning in replay.” Fanning escaped from the similar attack in South Africa on live TV last week.

Ison had serious cuts on his hands caused by the rough skin of the white animal. It bit him on his hip and thigh, leaving severe mark on those portions. His friend Hill also said to the Associated Press that before he could help him escape, he saw him paddling towards the shore.

Ison was saved by beach walkers who used surfboard leg ropes to compress his injury and stop the bleeding. “The leg was a bit of a mess, taken a bit of flesh but the muscle is intact,” Ison's partner, Jennifer Brown, told reporters outside the hospital. She expected the surfer would return to his sport in the future.
