Chelsea will be aggressive in trying to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s defender in Brazilian Marquinhos.

Spanish site Mundo Deportivo reports that Chelsea, along with Barcelona, are two of the clubs that will chase the 21-year-old Brazilian when the transfer season opens in January 2016.

Marquinhos is not used much with Paris Saint-Germaine with the defender playing behind Thiago Silva and David Luiz in the team’s rotation. Chelsea’s manager Jose Mourinho was reportedly active during the summer of 2015 in search of a top defender including Everton’s John Stones but was rejected to force Chelsea to move on to other targets.

Chelsea currently has three wins to show in nine matches so far in the Premier League season for 11th place in the team standings. Chelsea’s defence is struggling with John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic leading the way. Marquinhos has played for Corinthians (2011 to 2012) and Roma (2012 to 2013) in the Brazilian and Italian leagues respectively, before joining Paris Saint Germaine in 2013. He singed a five-year deal worth €31.4 million (approximately AU $49.0 million) with Paris Saint Germaine that season.

Marquinhos has also represented the Brazilian national team since 2010, playing for the youth teams from 2010 to 2014 and made his debut for the senior’s team in 2013. In 81 club matches in his career, Marquinos has scored four goals and has a total of nine caps playing for Brazil.
