Real Madrid icon Cristiano Ronaldo might return to the Premier League in the near future, former Sporting Lisbon teammate and his close friend Jose Semedo said.

Ronaldo started his senior career at Sporting Lisbon before moving to the Premier League with Manchester United at the age of 18. He spent six seasons in Manchester where he became one of the biggest superstars in the world.

He won three Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League title, one F.A Cup, one League Cup and the Club World Cup in his time with the Red Devils. His exploits in the 2007-08 season lead him to be named the winner of the FIFA World Player of the Year award and the Ballon D’Or award.

He then moved to Real Madrid in 2009 for a then-world record fee of £80 million (AU $169 million) and has gone to become one of the greatest players of all time. He has scored over 325 goals for the club in just over six seasons and has also won the La Liga, the UEFA Champions League, two FIFA Ballon D’Or titles and three European Golden Boot awards with the club.

“He is very happy at Real Madrid and he loves English football, he loves English people and deep down I think he will come back to England. He doesn’t like he wants to finish his career without coming back to England. He said he would wish Real Madrid is in England, but that is not possible so I believe he will end his career in English football,” Semedo told talkSport.

Ronaldo, 30, is still valued at €100 million (AU$150 million) by Real, who are open to selling the Portuguese, according to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague. He has also been linked with a move to French champions Paris Saint-Germain, who are keen to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic with the Madrid star; while a return to Manchester United is also certainly possible.
