Ian Somerhalder is constantly eyed by "Fifty Shades" fanatics for the role of Christian Grey. However, rumours have it that the biggest roadblock to the role is Ian's beau, Nina Dobrev. Yet, the latest news is that the "Vampire Diaries" lovers have called it quits. Was it all due to the Christian Grey role Nina Dobrev had greatly forbade Ian Somerhalder to do?

"Vampire Diaries" on and off screen lovers, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev have finally called it quits after three years of dating. Representatives for the actors refused to comment as to why they decided to split but speculations are floating around the web that "Fifty Shades of Grey" is to blame.

Fans may recall that Nina Dobrev had greatly forbid Ian from starring as Christian Grey in the anticipated film adaptation of E.L. James erotica novel. Sources close to Dobrev claimed the actress was too jealous of hearing other women paired off with Ian for the role. Obviously, things have gone off the far edge for Somerhalder's girl.

"She doesn't want her man, covered only by a sock, dry humping an actress covered by strips of tape. That's why she believes she should be his leading lady. But here's the thing. Ian doesn't like to be limited. That's why he flew out of New York right around the time she flew into it," reported Celebdirty Laundry.

Well, it's too late for that because they've already called it quits. So, does this mean Ian Somerhalder would most likely be cast for the role? Or would this be proof that Ian has already been cast for the role? Judging from Ian's mysterious tweet a few days back, everyone is hoping the role is that of Christian Grey.

"5:41AM- bye-bye beautiful Barcelona- back to LA to break down the new movie with the one and only Ivana Chubbuck (my acting coach and guru)," said Ian on Twitter.

If the role of Christian Grey was really the reason of the split between Nina and Ian, it proves a film role is a hell lot more important than the love of his life.
