This was the first time in a hundred years that a sitting monarch has to hold her great-grandchild, who was born to be the king 1 day. With his name yet to be revealed, “Baby Cambridge,” as the newly-born future king was now popularly called, was set to change laws when his time to the throne has come.

The birth of Baby Cambridge may mean a lot to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton. But his birth could mean more, if not equal to the history of the United Kingdom, as it “signifies a return to a long unbroken line of male rule.”

As the Telegraph UK put it, “If the baby follows after the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge as king, he will be the 43rd monarch since William the Conqueror obtained the crown of England.”

The birth of Baby Cambridge resulted in a linear movement of the royals in direct succession to the throne:
- Prince Harry now moved fourth in line to the throne
- The Duke of York moved down to fifth in line to the throne.
- Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie moved further down to sixth and seventh places, respectively.

The newborn Royal Baby was the first in 190 years to meet and be held by the sitting monarch:
- Edward VIII was born in 1894 and he was met with then still-serving monarch Queen Victoria, who reigned until 1901.
- Edward VI was born the year after, 1895, and Queen Victoria also witnessed the arrival of the fourth in line to the king.
- Princess Mary was the last great-granddaughter who had met the reigning Queen when born in 1897.

Baby Cambridge marked the first Prince of Cambridge born after more than 190 years. The Telegraph UK said that the newborn Royal Baby enjoyed the amendment of the Succession to the Crown Act that would have Britain’s monarch even if a girl was born for Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The Crown Act was amended recently and was just awaiting the approval of the 15 Commonwealth realms that were under the sovereignty of the present Queen. To date, three of 15 commonwealths heeded and agreed to the amendment of the 300-year-old Commonwealth Act.

The first Royal Baby of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge was born at 04:24 p.m. GMT (09:54 p.m. IST) on Monday. His birth was greeted with cheers at St. Mary's Hospital when the Kensington Palace announced the birth of the new heir at 08:30 GMT (2 a.m. IST, Wednesday).
