"Fear the Walking Dead” wrapped up its Season 1 on a high note on Oct. 04. This companion series and prequel to "The Walking Dead" was renewed for 15-episode Season 2 much before the premiere of 6-episode freshman season. The next season is expected to have an accelerated pace, and according to showrunner Dave Erickson, the first episode of "Fear the Walking Dead" Season 2 is likely to open with a time jump but not a "terribly dramatic" one.

"There's too much emotional weight coming off of the finale and the loss of Liza (Elizabeth Rodriguez) and Griselda (Patricia Reyes Spíndola)," Erickson told The Hollywood Reporter. "We didn't want to jump too far because there's an obligation to see the aftermath of that and see how that impacts our characters as they try to wrestle with it."

"Fear the Walking Dead" Season 1 finale saw Travis (Cliff Curtis) shooting Liza after she gets infected during the escape. Erickson said, "It's going to be interesting to see how does Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie) look at his father? How does Travis look at his son?"

He also said that the killig of Liza has "reaffirmed the connection between Madison (Kim Dickens) and Travis." She was seen comforting Travis after he shot Liza. Their connection is going to be explored in Season 2 of "Fear the Walking Dead" as well. Also Madison's darker past is going to be further explored in the upcoming season. Erickson hinted that she has been covering a violent past.

Meanwhile, the first season finale also saw Strand saving the day by letting the survivors stay at his mansion. He later pitched the idea of sailing off to the coast with the survivors on his boat, Abegail. The question on everyone’s mind is whether or not the Walkers (zombies) can swim. According to Erickson, Walkers cannot swim.

“Fear of the Walking Dead” comic creator Robert Kirkman has confirmed that the show will explore life at the sea next season. “There’s definitely some zombie water action coming up,” Kirkman said. He also joked that “maybe you’ll see the Walking Dead cruise come passing by."

And Erickson also told THR that there is going to be some action on the seas, and the new season will be split "between land and water."
