Fast cars versus hilarity are currently going on at the US movie box office list. Action-packed film "Fast and the Furious 6" speeds its way ahead of the humorous "The Hangover Part 3" movie to secure the top spot at the box office as the biggest film opening in the Universal Pictures record.

According to Hollywood.com, the sixth installment to the Fast & Furious franchise starring Vin Diesel and Paul Walker took the No. 1 spot with over $100 million at the US box office. "Fast and Furious 6" also did well at the worldwide box office with an estimated $300 million profit.

"Fans turned out because filmmakers upped the ante," Universal's head of distribution, Nikki Rocco, stated. "The creative team, the filmmakers and the studio put their heart and soul into making it bigger and better," Rocco further added.

In the "Fast and Furious 6" movie, the highly skilled team of street racers took on a tank and a plane which makes it an exciting summer popcorn film. Universal Pictures confirmed that "Fast & Furious 6" defeated its predecessor, "Fast Five," which formerly held the title of "best film opening" of the studio with its $83.6 million profit at domestic movie theaters.

To this point, "The Hangover Part 3" film becomes the second-biggest 2013 film opening at the Australian box office with $8.9 million since it hit the theaters on Thursday, May 23. However, "Fast & Furious" is anticipated to zoom past the hilarious film when it arrives at Australian cinemas on June 6.

In the US, "The Hangover Part 3" was pushed down to the No.2 spot with $44 million during the weekend. Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms reprise their roles in the final installment of the comedy trilogy as the close friends who were accidentally drawn back to Las Vegas where their journey all began.

"Some might argue that we should have stopped at one but we loved doing these movies and the audience has been there for them. The word 'hangover' is something that people share around the world. There are some comedies that are uniquely American but hangovers exist for the world," film director Todd Philips shared before the film's official release.

Other contenders at the movie box office are Paramount Pictures' "Star Trek: Into Darkness" at the No. 3 spot with additional $47 million earnings at the domestic ticket sales since its opening last week and the Fox animated film "Epic" at the No. 4 spot with $42.6 million.
