With empty vodka bottles in the room and lethal amounts of alcohol in her blood, soul diva Amy Winehouse drank more than her body could take.

Suzanne Greenaway, British coroner who did an autopsy on Winehouse's body gave a verdict Wednesday of "death by misadventure." The report said that the troubled singer died of alcohol poisoning after weeks of abstinence.

"The unintended consequence of such potentially fatal levels was her sudden and unexpected death," the coroner said.

Pathologist Suhail Baithun found "a very large quantity" of alcohol in blood and urine samples from Winehouse. Although the initial autopsy cannot be concluded, there were no signs of injury or illegal drugs.

The singer has fought a tough battle with alcoholism and illegal drugs for years. She was found dead on her home in London July 23 at the age of 27.

Dr. Christina Romete, Winehouse's physician, said the singer has resumed drinking for days prior to her death. She described Winehouse as "tipsy" when she spoke to her the night before her sudden death.

The doctor also said that the talented singer has made tremendous efforts through the years. She has reportedly given up illegal drugs on 2008 and stayed away from alcohol for the most of July.

"The court heard that Amy was battling hard to conquer problems with alcohol and it is a source of great pain to us that she could not win in time," Chris Goodman, a spokesperson of the Winehouse family released in a statement.
