Ex-Brazilian beauty queen jumps from 4th floor while drunk and after taking anti-depressant, now paralysed from waist down
In December 2010, Australian Senator Mary Jo Fisher unintentionally took $92.92 worth of food items from the Frewville Foodland outlet in Adelaide which she blamed on her depression. Fisher lost her dignity and her seat representing South Australia after she resigned in August 2012, but she is very much alive, while a former Brazilian beauty queen with a similar mental condition attempted suicide which left her paralysed.
The New York Post reports on Tuesday that Deborah Dantas, who once competed in Miss BumBum Brazil – which highlights the contestant’s derriere – representing the state of Paraiba, tried to kill herself by jumping from the fourth floor of an apartment block. She was battling depression and took alcohol and anti-depression medication when she leapt from the building.
However, while she did not die from the fall, Dantas has become paralysed from the waist down. She asked in a video message to her fans for prayers. Her hospital video is a far cry from an explicit video of the 20-year-old in 2015 which showed Dantas being pleasured by a woman in an adult nightclub in Brazil’s capital city.
A friend attributes Dantas’ drinking and depression to a lot of emotional problems. News of her suicide attempt comes amid the publication on the same week in The Lancet journal that anti-depressant drugs do not benefit children and adolescents with major depression, reports Medicalnewstoday.
The study analysed trials that used 14 antidepressant medications which were ranked according to efficacy, tolerability, acceptability and associated serious harms. In 34 of the trials with more than 5,200 participants, only fluoxetine had more benefits than risks.
Dantas’ suicide try just added to the growing list of Miss BumBum Brazil scandals which include current titleholder Suzy Cortez in a messaging war with the girlfriend of footballer Lionel Messi’s girlfriend for sending sexy snap and 2012 runner-up Andressa Urach writing a book that details her sex trade career, infection due to plastic surgery and alleged sex with Real Madrid player Cristiano Ronaldo.
