Manchester United will look to replace David De Gea with Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris if the Spaniard moves to Real Madrid, according to a report. De Gea’s contract with United expires at the end of the 2015-16 season and is yet to sign a new deal.

United have reportedly offered De Gea a contract worth 200,000 pounds per week in wages, which will make him the world’s highest paid goalkeeper. The reason for De Gea’s reluctance to sign the contract so far is unknown. He may just be waiting for United to qualify for Champions League football next season, which they missed out on last year under David Moyes.

However, various rumours have linked him with a return to Spain to replace Iker Casillas at Real Madrid. The 33 year old underwent a dip in form over the last year, and De Gea’s girlfriend also stays in Spain, further encouraging the rumors of a Manchester United next. There have also been reports of United using David De Gea as leverage to land Gareth Bale from Madrid. The Red Devils were interested in Bale before he moved to the Spanish capital in 2013.

Hugo Lloris, meanwhile, wants regular Champions League football to further his career. Tottenham last played in the Champions League in the 2010-11 season, and have only played in the Europa League in the past four seasons. He signed for Tottenham ahead of the 2012-13 season, and has been considered one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League ever since. The ESPN report claims that there have been initial talks between Manchester United and Lloris’ camp, with the Frenchman believed to be very much open to the move.

The ESPN report adds that the delay in resolving De Gea’s future has affected a deal to sign PSV’s Memphis Depay. It claims that United will let De Gea go and try to get Bale from Real. In case such a move happens, United would not try to sign Depay.
