Real Madrid can celebrate the 10th UEFA Champions League crown that they won last season alongside being the richest football club in the world for 10 years in a row in terms of revenue generated according to the multinational Chartered Accountancy firm Deloitte. Deloitte Football Money League does not take into account the amount of debt that each club has, it only looks at revenue generated.

Barcelona who suffered an odd last season without any silverware have logically have come down the ranking at fourth place. What defies logic is that Manchester United irrespective of having the worst season in two decades have moved up the ladder and is now at the second place. This is obviously down to the fact that their commercial partners as well as the Premier Leagues’ have renewed improved contracts with them. Bayern Munich in spite of having a stellar season had to be contented with remaining at the third position.

With the new improved £3 billion television deal kicking in the Premier League the might of the English clubs have come through in the rankings. In the top 10 there are five English clubs, in the top 20 there are seven and in the top 30 there are 14 English clubs present. The top five English clubs are Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool at second, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth places respectively.

If this trend is to continue then Manchester United, with their new £750m 10 year kit deal kicking in, will take the number one position in two years. Provided off-course they qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season. Manchester City would do a lot better commercially if they increase their stadium capacity. They have the lowest proportion of income coming out of match day revenues in the top ten clubs. Newcastle United are punching above their weight in terms of commercial success. “Newcastle United are commercially in the strongest position in their history”, the Deloitte report added. Galatasaray from Turkey are the only club out of the leagues in England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France to be present in the top 20.
