‘Doctor Who’ star Peter Capaldi declines BBC’s requests for extra episodes; Corey Taylor joins cast

Peter Capaldi, 57, recently revealed he had been turning down requests from BBC to make more “Doctor Who” episodes each year. For the actor, making more episodes for the British sci-fi TV series, in which he plays the Doctor, would cause “casualties."
“We’ve been going since January 6 and the crew, who are wonderful, are exhausted,” Mirror quoted Capaldi as saying when he was discussing the pressures of filming “Doctor Who” Season 10. He explained that there would be “casualties” if they did the show all year round and making two series in a year was out of the question.
According to Capaldi, one of the possible casualties would be the quality of the show. He said it is absolutely vital that they have “Doctor Who” showrunner Steven Moffat, who is working on the upcoming Season 10.
For Capaldi, it is Moffat who has the vision to run the whole thing. In addition, he mentioned that he and Moffat only have so much energy and made it clear that making more “Doctor Who” episodes each year is not going to happen.
Capaldi said they do the best they can to produce “Doctor Who” to “an immensely high quality.” He pointed out that there reaches a point where he cannot be driven any harder.
Meanwhile, “Fear Clinic” actor Corey Taylor is set to appear on “Doctor Who,” Season 9, Episode 3, titled “Under the Lake.” He will lend his voice to a new alien warlord, called King Fisher, in the episode set to be aired on Oct. 3, according to BBC.
Prior to “Doctor Who” Season 9, Taylor appeared in the TV series “Mad Genius” in 2010. In 2002, he appeared as a member of the heavy metal band Slipknot, of which he is the lead singer and lyricist in real life. He is also the lead vocalist of another rock band, called Stone Sour.
Directed by Daniel O’Hara and written by Toby Whithouse, “Doctor Who” Season 9, Episode 3, “Under the Lake,” also features Arsher Ali, Morven Christie, Neil Fingleton, Zaqi Ismail, Paul Kaye, Sophie Leigh Stone, Collin McFarlane and Steven Robertson. The episode will feature Capaldi and Jenna Coleman’s characters dealing with ghosts.
