Rachel McAdams will play the leading lady in “Doctor Strange.” The actress has confirmed that she has been cast in the upcoming Marvel film.

“I’m Joining Benedict Cumberbatch in Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange , she told The Wrap. The rumours of her involvement in the film have been rife for a while.

She had earlier told Los Angeles Times that she is in talks to play a role in “Doctor Strange.” “It's still super-early days, and I don't know where that's gonna go, if it's gonna go anywhere at all,” she said.

It is not yet known what character McAdams is supposed to play in the film, though Cinema Blend has speculated that she could play comic book character Clea. In the comics, Clea is depicted as a female magician who develops romantic feeling for Doctor Stephen Strange. Called the princess of the dark dimension, she has an array of powers, including forming and throwing magical bolts, telekinesis, teleporting and others. Clea first made her first appearance in the 1964 comic book, “Strange Tales” No. 126.

The filming of “Doctor Strange” will start in November. Cumberbatch has signed on to play the titular role, Doctor Strange. And the other actors who have been roped in to pivotal roles in the film include Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Swinton will play the role of supreme sorcerer the Ancient One, while Ejiofor’s role has not been revealed.

Meanwhile, “Hannibal” star Mads Mikkelsen is also in talks to play the main villain, The Wrap reported. The official storyline of the film is being kept under wraps; however, Marvel president Kevin Feige has said in an interview with Birth Movies Death that Doctor Strange “will be the strangest thing walking out onto (Bleecker) street.”

Scott Derrickson is directing the film from the screenplay by Thomas Dean Donnelly, Joshua Oppenheimer and Jon Spaihts. It opens Oct. 28, 2016.
