“Hannibal” star Mads Mikkelsen is reportedly in early talks to join the stellar cast of “Doctor Strange.” The actor is being considered for the role of a villain.

Mikkelsen, who is likely to receive an offer soon, may star opposite Benedict Cumberbatch as one of the antagonists, Variety reported. However, the details about the character have not been revealed.

Also Marvel has yet to officially confirm Mikkelsen’s involvement in the film. The production house has been interested in casting the actor since a long time, according to reports. He was previously considered for the role of villain Malekith in “Thor: The Dark World.” However, the deal did not materialise at the time, and the role went to Christopher Eccleston.

Mikkelsen rose to fame after playing Le Chiffre in the 2006’s James Bond film “Casino Royal. He was last seen as Elias in “Men & Chicken." He is currently filming for “Star Wars” spinoff, “Rouge One: A Star Wars Story,” and his role in the film has been kept under wraps.

Meanwhile, “Doctor Strange” is currently in pre-production stage. The film stars Cumberbatch in the titular role of Doctor Stephen Strange. Tilda Swinton will play the Ancient One, and “12 Years a Slave” actor Chiwetel Ejiofor” will also be seen in a major role.

Speaking about the film, cinematographer Ben Davis told Screen Daily, “It has a very psychedelic grounding, and it’s not your typical Marvel action movie. … Most of the work within it is about other dimensions. And I described it, I think, when I was talking to Marvel as Marvel’s 'Fantasia.”

Scott Derrickson is directing the film from the screenplay by Thomas Dean Donnelly, Joshua Oppenheimer and Jon Spaihts. The movie will release on Oct. 28, 2016.
