Ask anyone who the breakout stars from the “Despicable Me” are and chances are all their answers will involve the Minions. The little yellow guys have proven to be so popular that they’re getting their own spin-off film called “Minions” that details their story before they met protagonist Groo. To capitalize on their popularity, EA Games has announced “Minions Paradise,” while also promising more “Minion” games in the future.

The upcoming “Minion’s Paradise” will be a free-to-play mobile game from publisher EA and will be the first “Minion” game that comes from the popular company. According to IGN, players will play as an original Minion made for the game called Phil, as they build a Minion Utopia and play a whole bunch of mini-games that include waterslides and bananas.

It seems that the game will be a mish-mash between city building like in “Sim City,” or in the game’s case amusement park building, mixed in with some park related video games. This is set to be the first of many “Minion” games to come from EA Games.

Fans may remember another popular “Minion” game from developer Gameloft called “Despicable Me: Minion Rush.” That title proved to be one of the more successful infinite runners that the App store has ever seen, with Pocket Gamer confirming that the title peaked at over half a billion downloads. It appears that Gameloft no longer has the “Despicable Me” license, given the recent announcements EA has made.

It’s currently unsure if the “Minion’s Paradise” game will be set in the timeline of the upcoming “Minions” movie or if it will be set during the timeline of “Despicable Me.” EA has promised more updates for the game and future games will be coming soon.

No release date has been announced for “Minion’s Paradise,” though it could be assumed that it will be released sometime before the “Minions” film comes out in July. The film will feature the origins of how these little yellow guys came to be, while also starring Hollywood actress Sandra Bullock. Given that the film is a prequel it’s doubtful that Steve Carrel will return as Groo, though he could always make a cameo.
