'Designated Survivor' cast updates: Kiefer Sutherland reveals dating Miss Latina USA and actress Cindy Vela
Kiefer Sutherland, who plays the President of the United States in “Designated Survivor,” has found love again. Reports say that the 50-year-old has been dating actress Cindy Vela secretly for the past few years. According to the sources, Sutherland and Vela have been an item for about three years already. However, they chose to keep the romance secret from the media. The 38-year-old actress is reportedly travelling on tour with Sutherland and his band across Europe.
According to People, an official representative of Sutherland confirmed the news. Since Sutherland began shooting his starring role on “Designated Survivor” last fall, Vela had been frequently travelling to Vancouver, Canada where the political drama series is filmed. She has also been a frequent companion to him and his band as they tour across Europe.
Vela is still active in showbiz and will star in the upcoming indie film “It’s Gawd.” Here, she will play a character who is half-human and half-angel while being half-Hispanic and half-Japanese. The film’s director said that he thought of the role with Vela in mind because of her quirky personality.
Sutherland was previously married to model Elizabeth Kelly Winn for around eight years until they sought divorce in 2004. The two have been separated since 1999. That was not the first time the “24” star faced romantic woes. He earlier revealed that his song titled “Calling Out Your Name” talks about one of the greatest pains of his youth. The song is about a breakup, which he says was the first time in his life where he had his heart really broken.
When Sutherland was 24, he was in a relationship with actress Julia Roberts, who was then 23 years old. They were set to walk down the aisle. However, two days before the wedding, Roberts called off what could have been a high-profile event. Twenty-five years after that event, Sutherland said he was thankful that Roberts made that controversial decision, as it took a lot of courage to say that. She was being realistic back then, and the decision turned out better for both of them.
Sutherland said he is in a much better place, and with a girl like Vela, it looks like things can't go wrong. His girlfriend is a classically trained saxophonist who won Miss Latina USA back in 2000. She is a Harry Potter geek and, on top of all that, she looks fitting as the first lady of a “president.”
