Demi Lovato is heartbroken over the death of her maltipoo puppy and “little angel,” Buddy, who was killed in a tragic accident on Sunday, July 26.

The 22 year old singer is mourning the death of her pet dog that she shared with her boyfriend, Wilmer Valderrrama. Lovato took to Twitter Tuesday, July 28, to share the sad news with her fans, PerezHilton.com reported.

The former Disney star mentioned that she and her boyfriend were devastated by the passing of Buddy. Lovato wrote, "He was taken from us way too soon in a tragic accident and though I will never know why this had to happen, I do know that God only puts us through situations that we can handle so with that, together we our staying strong."

The “Cool for Summer” crooner added that they received “love and support” from people around them after the tragic incident. Lovato also remarked how Buddy was loved by so many people and how the maltipoo puppy made a “huge impact” in both her and Valderrama’s lives.

The musician described her pet dog as “truly human in a way,” and she considered it a blessing that they had the furry puppy in their lives.

Buddy was a regular feature on Lovato’s social media pages, Hello! Magazine reported, adding the puppy was the "best security guard out there." The singer’s pet dog was a celebrity in his own right, having Instagram and Twitter accounts, with over 368,000 and 70,000 followers respectively.

Lovato’s Twitter message asked for privacy as they mourn Buddy’s death. The singer added, “We will never forget our baby boy Buddy and his gentle loving spirit will live on in our hearts forever. RIP my tiniest little nightingale, Buddy…"

The details of Buddy’s tragic accident has not been disclosed, E! News reports. Lovato, however, shared a photo a week ago showing the puppy lying down captioned with crying emoji faces. It is unclear whether the image is related to the accident.

Lovato and Valderrama’s maltipoo puppy was an early Christmas gift given to the singer late last year.
