What first appeared to be an ordinary plane ride turned into a disaster in the fifth episode of "Criminal Minds" Season 10. The BAU team had been called to investigate the suspicious crash of a passenger jet mid-flight bound for Colorado. The BAU team are now on the course of trying to figure out why the plane was off-course -- the Homeland security team has revealed that the passenger jet was nowhere near its flight path when it crashed in Colorado, as it was off by 150 miles. With 30 minutes of lost communication with the aircraft, the BAU team has their work cut out for them.

They do have one clue to go on: a witness who has allegedly seen a flash of light in the sky before the plane had crashed. In the meantime, Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Kate Callahan (Jennifer Love-Hewitt) have been tasked to investigate the wreckage. Here, Callahan opens up to Reid about her family, as the crash site reminds her of what happened to her sister and brother-in-law. They were victims of the 9/11 attack while they were working at the Pentagon.

More clues start to emerge that take the team on a whirlwind of theories. One witness appeared to have seen a light in the sky hinting at possible terrorist attacks. On the other hand, the surviving co-pilot also has some cryptic words to go by, "I said stop, I said stop."

In the midst of all the theories, it is Reid's brilliant deduction on plane structures that manages to piece together some of the evidence: a possible hacking from the outside that controlled and crashed the plane. This is further driven to a point when the black box shows up, and the recording suggests that the pilots lost control of the plane to a hack or a bug.

The BAU team's specialty is now on the table as they hunt for a serial killer who wants to see massive body count such as in plane crashes. In a classic twist as expected in "Criminal Minds," resident BAU techie Penelope Garcia (Kristin Vangsness) discovers that one of the female passengers had been the trigger to the unsub, a proclaimed genius and Oppenheimer fan looking to create his own version of the atomic bomb for glory.

In a classic "Criminal Minds" move, it becomes a race against time to get to the unsub, as the next targeted aircraft, bearing more than 300 passengers, goes under his control. Between shooting down the plane to save more lives and shooting down the criminal, Hotch pulls the trigger faster on the hacker and his creation. With bated breath, the crew waits for the signal, which was greeted with hurrahs all around for another case yet closed.
