Jason Aldean will marry Brittany Kerr, a former American Idol contestant. The 37-year-old country singer popped the question to the 26-year-old when they travelled together throughout the West Coast in the Burn It Down tour. It happened during a secret rendezvous at the San Diego Zoo on Wednesday. He asked and she agreed, even as she was playing with a seal, according to Daily Mail. Her Instagram said it all. She posted a picture of herself, and wrote: "My man did it again. Today was amazing #sandiegozoo #myeverything."

Rumours of his affair began as long ago as in September, 2012, when he was caught kissing Brittany in a bar. Initially, Jason did not want to break his marriage. Photos of him with Brittany flashed on the public eye, but the married singer initially felt remorseful and apologised for his behaviour on Facebook, admitting that he had "screwed up" and "had too much to drink" that evening, according to E!. "I'm not perfect, and I'm sorry for disappointing you guys," he said. He regretted that he had embarrassed his family and himself. At the time he and his wife Jessica Ussery were trying to overcome and move ahead from their "unfortunate" situation. He hoped that people would give them "the privacy to do that---and that's kinda it."

He finally filed for divorce from Jessica in April 2013, although she had been a high school sweetheart and they had remained together for 12 years, with two daughters, Kendyl and Keely. He flipped for Brittany, the NBA cheerleader and former American Idol competitor, and decided to divorce Jessica. On April 25, 2013, it was rumoured that Jason had separated from Jessica even in January, before he officially filed for divorce.

Earlier this year, Aldean and Kerr came together for an official red carpet debut at the 2014 CMT Awards in Nashville. Just one month ago, Jason had said that he did not want to be criticized for his relationship with Brittany. In Instagram, he pointed out that he was known for his name, but his background was unknown. Everybody is able to understand what he has done, but not what he has experienced. He was sick of being judged for what the critics knew nothing about, he wrote. He said that he was happier than ever before, and was grateful to all the people who are behind him. It is time to move on, he mused.

At one point, he was criticised for every small bit of his behaviour. Critics condemned him for sharing pictures with Brittany and a French bulldog puppy. He had written that he had bought a small gift for Brittany. "Her favourite pooch @manny_the_frenchie came to my show in Chi-Town tonite. #loveubaby #surprise,' he had written. She was leaning over the dog to kiss it.

Yet, it was a difficult image and situation to handle. He mused to E that whenever he said anything, it is splashed in all the newspapers. Even though he was not trying to squeeze into the headlines, but was only trying to stop people from shooting their mouths, every word of his would go viral.

Finally, though, he decided to stop trying to patch up his marriage, and instead, go official with his engagement. Now, Jason Aldean is at last convinced that he has taken the right step. "I have made mistakes but i am a better person because of it, and wouldn't change a thing," he said, on Instagram.
