The speculations were true after all - Glee star Cory Monteith died of alcohol and heroin overdose, a report by the British Columbia coroner said.

The report by BC Coroner Barbara McLintock, quoted by BBC, stated, "There is no evidence to suggest Mr Monteith's death was anything other than a most tragic accident." It added that post-morten examination found the cause was "a mixed-drug toxicity involving heroin and alcohol."

The report report confirms the too many parallels in the real life of the Canadian actor and and his TV persona Finn Hudson. The similarities is also evident in his last film McCanick where he played a drug addict, amid earlier speculations by fans and the public that overdose could probably be the cause of his demise on Saturday, July 13.

Cory and Finn share at least two real- and reel-life situations, while Cory and Simon Weeks - the character he portrayed in the cop drama McCanick - shared one.

First, the Cory and Finn parallels, since Cory will always be identified with Finn long after his death which caught the Glee world by surprise.

  • Same girlfriend - Cory's real life girlfriend is Glee co-star Lea Michele who portrays his reel-life beau Rachel Berry. Their romance developed on the set of the Fox hit series, soon to return in September on its fifth season. Lea, who is crushed by the death of Cory and inconsolable, has requested for some privacy as she grieves for her loss.

Toward the end of season 3, Finn and Rachel were planning to marry, but Finn eventually decides to give Rachel the freedom to pursue her dream to be a big star in New York. Here is one of their many break-ups, which has become real-life as Lea is bound to say good-bye for the last time to Cory when he is buried, although there are no details yet on his funeral since authorities are still performing autopsy to determine the cause of the 31-year-old actor's death.

  • Same military father - In Glee, Finn's father is a military man who died in action. In real life, Cory's father, Joe Monteith, served in the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry and his parents divorced when he was seven. The separation, plus the military service, resulted in Cory seeing little of Joe when he was growing up.

In his 8 years as an actor, Cory had done 18 films, the last of which is McCanick where he portrays an addict. Again, another art-imitating-life event since he had a drug problem during his teens that led to petty crimes to fund his bad habit. Although he was rehabilitated when he was 19, the drug problem recurred that in March, Cory decided to enter a treatment facility for substance addiction and he completed the treatment by the end of April.

In McCanick, he is jailed for murder and let out on parole. Josh Waller, the director of the film, admitted he was hesitant to cast Cory as Simon because of the actor's big physique while the character he had in mind was a small drug guy.

The director said when he met Cory, the actor said he wanted to get the role badly, shared about his past which he said he would tap for the role.

"The second that we started shooting, like literally the moment he was on camera, any concerns that I had were gone. Immediately gone," Josh said, quoted by Handbag.com.
