Sony is going to give developers more firepower with the PlayStation 4 by unlocking the seventh CPU core for the current leading home console. One of the best features of the unlocked seventh CPU will allow developers to add better features in future games to provide players with a better gaming experience.

Although Sony has yet to confirm the news, a developer on Beyond3D’s forum has unearthed a source code in the latest PlayStation 4 update on the audio tool FMOD. The code reads, “PS4--Added FMOD_THREAD_CORE6 to allow access to the newly unlocked 7th core." Since the code comes from the latest update released by Sony, it is reportedly very likely that such code is true.

What the code means is that Sony could allowed developers to draw out more power from the processors of the PlayStation 4. By drawing out more power from the processors, developers could add better features to games as well as better resolution, graphics and more. Microsoft partially unlocked the 7th processor of the Xbox One for use by the developers last January, and since then, some Xbox One titles have improved over the months.

However, if the 7th door is indeed unlocked, current games will not see any changes whatsoever, Eurogamer reports. The only way for current games to make use of the 7th processor is if developers update the game to add support. Developers could give the game an upgrade on resolution and graphics, among others.

The 7th processor does bring good news to gamers as the PlayStation 4 is a console that relies a lot on the CPU processing power. Basically, more CPU power means more sources for the PlayStation 4 for games.
