After cancelling Chris Brown’s tour in Australia last year, his concert promoter is now embroiled in a court case in Melbourne.

Castor and Ford Agency Pty Ltd, or CAFA, is facing a $3.6 million lawsuit brought by Westgate Entertainment Pty Ltd to the Victorian Supreme Court. In the writ filed by Westgate, the company allegedly paid more than $2.6 million before the December concerts were cancelled, according to a report by 9news. In addition, Westgate also loaned $1 million advance in September 2015.

Westgate and CAFA were reported to sign a deal in June 2015, stating that the former would shoulder 50 per cent of tour-related expenses. Court documents also say that under the agreement, Westgate would be repaid this amount, as well as get half of the tour’s profits.

Melbourne-based CAFA was given 10 days to respond to the lawsuit.

Westgate’s legal action stems from Brown’s cancelled “One Hell of a Nite Tour” in December 2015. The “Ayo” singer was supposed to stage shows in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. However, the 26-year-old R&B singer did not push thru with his Australian and New Zealand tours after being denied a visa to enter Australia over his history of domestic violence.

It would be recalled that in 2009, the Brown was sentenced to five years’ probation for assaulting and threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend Rihanna. The charges against him resulted to a decision by the Federal Government to ban him from coming to Australia in September 2015, according to a report by ABC.

Brown took to Twitter to make a public appeal to allow him to enter the country. In a series of posts, Brown plead his case by writing, “My life mistakes should be a wake up call for everyone. Showing the world that mistakes don't define you.”

He also posted, "I would be more than grateful to come to Australia to raise awareness on domestic violence, I am not the pink elephant in the room anymore.”
