China-based start up Zuk, which is backed by Lenovo will unveil its high end Z1 smartphone on August 11. Zuk, which is also backed by a Chinese software company named Qihoo 360, took to its Weibo Social networking page to announce that it will unveil its Z1 smartphone for the first time.

Zuk has numerous competitors in China including Xiaomi, Huawei, ZTE, Meizu, OnePlus and Vivo. However, the company promises that its Z1 smartphone will sport interesting specifications and will be powered by the Cyanogen OS, besides assuring low price, reports Digital Trends.

According to unconfirmed reports, the Zuk Z1 is likely to sport a 5.5-inch 1080 x 1920 resolution screen, a Snapdragon 810 SoC, 3 GB RAM and an internal storage capacity of 16 GB or 32 GB, reports Phonearena.com. Other expected features include the new USB Type-C connection, 4000+ mAh battery, 13 megapixel rear camera, fingerprint sensor in the home button and 4G support.

As mentioned above, the Z1 will run CyanogenOS, which delivers an Android experience without Google’s involvement. According to Zuk’s webpage via Digital Trends, the operating system will get a custom user interface over the top called ZUI that could be related to Qihoo’s own operating system, which is based on Android platform.

Will Zuk Be Able To Take On Its Established Competitors?

With the Zuk introducing the Z1 smartphone, the highly concentrated smartphone industry in China will get another market player. But the big question is, can Zuk compete with its long list of competitors?

According to a very recent report on Asia One Business, China’s biggest smartphone makers are getting into the high end smartphone segment, which means the market players will slash the prices of the high end products to lure more customers. Antonio Wang, an analyst at research firm IDC explained to the publication that this trend will benefit consumers as “by introducing premium devices, the average price of high-end smartphones will be dragged down.”

In China, smartphone manufacturers are moving towards offering high end smartphone brands at a low cost. In such a scenario, will Zuk Z1 be able to compete with other market players in the smartphone segment?
