Jose Mourinho swore at Everton manager Roberto Martinez after his team lost to the Merseyside club on Saturday, according to various reports.

The defeat at Goodison Park is not said to have been the main trigger, however, with Mourinho reportedly more upset about having had to wait for the post-match press conference. According to the reports, Mourinho was displeased that Roberto Martinez was interviewed first, despite the visiting squad already waiting in the bus to leave for London.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Martinez finished his post-match conference and was talking to some newspaper reporters outside the conference room when Mourinho walked past and asked the Everton manager to let him go first next time, claiming his team had to travel.

“Roberto, next time, tell [them to let] me go before you because we have to travel.” Mourinho reportedly said.

“We don’t control that Jose, I don’t control that,” Martinez’s answered to Mourinho, who replied an expletive.

It was clear that Mourinho was frustrated and in a hurry to get back with Chelsea‘s head of communications and public affairs Steve Atkins asking reporters to hurry, with the players already waiting in the bus to get back to London.

The 3-1 loss was Chelsea’s third in five Premier League games. With just four points out of a possible 15, this has been their worst start to a season since 1986. It is also the worst start by any defending champion in the Premier League era.

The Blues are already 11 points behind Manchester City, who lead the league having won all five of their matches so far this season. The Londoners next face Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League on Wednesday before hosting Arsenal on Saturday. While a win against the Israeli side is certainly expected, a defeat to Arsenal would almost certainly crush any hopes of the club defending their title.

Mourinho’s job is certainly safe for the moment, with the Portuguese having signed a new four deal just two months back. But with the club currently in 16th place in the EPL, should Champions League qualification become a doubt, even Mourinho would not be expected to survive at the club considering owner Roman Abramovich’s high ambitions for the club.
