Martin Freeman was recently cast in “Captain America: Civil War” for an undisclosed role. Details to his involvement in the sequel have yet to be revealed. However, Mark Millar gave a tease on what fans should expect from the actor in the film.

Mark Millar, writer for the comic book storyline for which “Captain America: Civil War” is based, recently teased Martin Freeman’s role in the film. Fans hoping to see Freeman play superhero in the sequel will be disappointed. Millar told RadioTimes.com that “The Hobbit” star will play a character who “is not a super-person.”

Millar admitted already knowing Freeman’s role in the film but declined to give specific details. Instead, he further teased that fans would immediately recognise the actor’s character once they see him on film. He also assured that Martin Freeman will not be playing as the villain Red Skull in “Captain America: Civil War.” “Well, I don’t want to spoil it for anybody but he’s not going to be in costume,” he revealed.

Speculations for which Marvel character Martin Freeman will portray in “Captain America: Civil War” have been varied. Movie scoopster Umberto Gonzalez on his Instagram post said he will play as an interrogator and will reprise his role in “Black Panther.” Rumours have also associated him with playing the role of Everett Ross. According to Vanity Fair, it’s very likely for the actor to play the charming government liaison officer in “Civil War” who later on turned evil after befriending T’Challa or “Black Panther.”

According to What Culture, it’s hard to pin point which character Martin Freeman would portray in “Captain America: Civil War” since he is a versatile actor. He’s shown his comic side in “Sherlock,” played the hero in “The Hobbit” and also proved he can play as a villain in “Fargo.” His acting skills are so broad that even Mark Millar joked Freeman could “play as Hit-Girl.”

However, details to the extent of Martin Freeman’s involvement in “Captain America: Civil War” has yet to be revealed. It’s still unknown whether his role would only be limited to a cameo appearance as introduction to his rumoured return in “Black Panther.”
